A true Central European, Carpathian Basin variety with numerous synonyms. Although Hungary takes this grape variety most seriously, Olaszrizling is also widely encountered in neighboring countries. Its origins are obscure, but one thing is certain: Lake Balaton is unimaginable without Olaszrizling, and Olaszrizling without Lake Balaton.
The Szent György Hill Olaszrizling is the estate’s iconic wine. It is made from carefully selected clusters from three local vineyard areas, undergoing spontaneous fermentation in steel tanks, followed by three months of aging in barrels. This may be our most renowned wine, which is why its design differs slightly from our other labels: this is the only one where not just the paint texture is visible, but also the eternal theme of Heni’s artwork — the surrounding landscape and the stone cross that has accompanied this wine since its inception.
