The Azores, Portugal

The Azores (Açores in Portuguese) are a group of islands, belonging to Portugal. Geologically they are fairly young,  the result of volcanic activity in the Atlantic Ocean.  They are located approx. 1500 km from Lisbon and about 3900 km from North America . Their center of administration is Horta,  on Faial island, the largest city is on São Miguel island, called Ponta Delgada.
